Duckworth, Ebden out of Colombian tennis

Australian tennis players Matthew Ebden and James Duckworth have joined Chris Guccione as second-round losers at the Claro Open in Colombia.

Australians Matthew Ebden and James Duckworth lost second-round matches on Thursday at the Claro Open tennis tournament in Colombia.

Ebden was defeated 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 by local player Alejandro Falla, while Duckworth could not quite get over the line, going down 7-5 3-6 7-5 to Vasek Pospisil of Canada.

On Wednesday, fellow Australian Chris Guccione lost in the second round to sixth-seeded Colombian Santiago Giraldo 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Top-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia advanced on Thursday night to the quarter-finals, beating Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans 6-4 7-5. He will face Falla in the last eight.

In the afternoon session, Italy's Matteo Viola beat fourth-seeded Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France 6-3 7-5 to set up a quarter-final showdown with Pospisil.
