Dugan eyes Sharks' NRL consistency at back

A return to Cronulla's preferred spine option for their NRL clash with Penrith should bring consistency back to their attack, according to Josh Dugan.

Josh Dugan wants consistency back in Cronulla's NRL attack with his return to the Sharks' No.1 jersey against Penrith.

Dugan has been named at fullback for the clash, after missing two weeks with a groin injury and returning last week in the centres.

The Sharks, who have slumped to 13th on the ladder after winning just two of their opening six games, have already used three fullbacks and two five-eighths this season.

But with Dugan set to stay in the No.1 and Matt Moylan at No.6 for the foreseeable future, he said consistency in attack should follow.

"It's been pretty tough," Dugan said.

"I don't think we've had the same six, seven, nine and one for two weeks, back to back," he said.

"It's about getting on the park on Sunday and getting a win and getting our form kick-started."

The Sharks are ranked second last this year in attack, averaging 14.7 points per game and well down on last year's mark of 20.

They are also ranked last for tackle breaks, second worst for completion rates and third last for line breaks as their all-star attack has struggled to click.

However, Cronulla are hoping that changes against ex-teammate James Maloney at home.

"Hopefully, we can start getting that continuity and consistency and start putting some wins together," Dugan said.

"Chaddy (Townsend) and Moyza (Matt Moylan) will be running most of it and I'm a part it, obviously, but they'll be calling shots and I'll be just relaying it and playing a back-up role for them."
