Dugan signs four-year Dragons deal

NSW Fullback Josh Dugan has re-signed with St George Illawarra for a further four years.

NSW fullback Josh Dugan has signed a four-year contract extension with St George Illawarra, ending speculation the former Canberra star could join Canterbury.

The 23-year-old has been in outstanding form since joining the Dragons following his sacking by the Raiders earlier this year.

"The club has really looked after me, made me feel very welcome and I am excited to be able to continue my football career with the Dragons," said Dugan.

"The Dragons have recruited strongly for next season and it was something that I really wanted to be a part of here at the club."

Dugan will be joined next year by Melbourne's Gareth Widdop, Canberra duo Joel Thompson and Sam Williams in addition to South Sydney centre Dylan Farrell and English prop Mike Cooper from Warrington.

Dragons head coach Steve Price said he was delighted Dugan had committed his long-term future to the club.

"Josh is a very talented player and I am pleased that he will continue being an important part of the team for at least the next four seasons," said Price.

"His attitude and commitment to our club since he arrived has been fantastic and his contributions to the team in games and at training has added great value to our squad."

Dragons chief executive Peter Doust said Dugan's contribution off the field was a main reason for the decision to keep him.

"Josh is an unique rugby league talent and his commitment to our club has been extremely positive since he arrived midway through the year", said Doust.

"Not only has Josh contributed positively on the field, he has shown a real desire to work in our Dragons Community programs and has commenced further education.

"Josh has been very happy since he arrived at our club and indicated very early that he was keen to extend his stay.

"The length of the deal meant the contract negotiations were complex and took some time but we were able to finalise those this afternoon and the outcome is pleasing for both Josh and the club."
