Beleaguered Sydney FC coach Frank Farina should approach his club if he wants dugouts installed to enhance security, says Football Federation Australia.
Farina made the call for sideline dugouts after having contents of a cup tossed on him during Saturday's tumultuous 3-0 home loss to Adelaide at Allianz Stadium.
It was one of a number of acts of dissatisfaction from disgruntled Sydney FC fans, as their side slipped to a club record third straight home defeat and a seventh loss in their past 10 games.
The club has another home game looming on Saturday against Perth Glory, which could prompt a review of security arrangements in the wake of ugly scenes.
Farina said he didn't feel his safety was compromised by the incident - for which a man was ejected from the venue - and made jokes about the offender having to buy another drink.
However, he made it clear there could be better protection for players, coaches and support staff, who currently sit on uncovered chairs on the sideline at Allianz Stadium.
"I think it's an issue with the benches, I've always said the A-League have to improve that situation, the benches are terrible," Farina said.
"If something like that can happen, I think it highlights that they've got to change something and do something about that.
"Either security has to be there or (the seating area has to be) closed in, like a dugout.
"Where in the world do you have just armchairs (sic) on the sidelines?
"It's not just about tonight. Players can have things thrown at them from the stands because a lot of the grounds are very close.
"Maybe the argument is dugouts will stop people's view. Well, maybe you just have to give up a few rows to accommodate proper dugouts."
An FFA spokesperson told AAP that his organisation had no issues with dugouts and it was up to Farina to tell his club what he wanted and they could inform the FFA on what they proposed.
He said most other A-League clubs had similar sideline seating arrangements to Sydney FC.
