Dunk to keep for Australia in T20s

Tasmanian master blaster Ben Dunk is set to make his Australian debut after being called into the squad to face South Africa in Twenty20 matches.

Run machine Ben Dunk will wear the gloves for Australia in their upcoming Twenty20 internationals against South Africa after being rewarded for his superb double century at the weekend.

Dunk blasted 229 not out in a record domestic one-day innings for Tasmania at North Sydney Oval on Saturday, and has now jumped the queue in the Australian wicketkeeper standings.

With No.1 keeper Brad Haddin among those still in the UAE on Test duty when the three-match T20 series against the Proteas starts on November 5, selectors have picked a squad full of fresh faces.

Dunk beat fellow Tasmanian Tim Paine as well as NSW gloveman Peter Nevill, West Australian Sam Whiteman and former Australian keeper Matt Wade to the role behind the stumps for the matches at Adelaide Oval, the MCG and ANZ Stadium early next month.

Allrounder Shane Watson will make his international return from injury after making a successful comeback in club cricket for Sutherland on Sunday.

Watson was forced out of the recent tours of Zimbabwe and the UAE with ankle and calf problems that resulted from stepping on a ball at training.

Exciting NSW opener Nic Maddinson returns to the squad and will likely front-up the Australian batting alongside captain Aaron Finch.

Queenslander Nathan Reardon is in line for his international debut, while selectors have shown faith in promising youngsters Sean Abbott, Cameron Boyce and Patrick Cummins to continue their development.

Veteran left-arm paceman Doug Bollinger has another chance at international cricket at age 33 and will lead the attack along with South Australian death bowler Kane Richardson.

Cameron White, fresh from a one-day century for Victoria, has a chance to push his World Cup claims and allrounder James Faulkner will be a key fixture in the side provided he isn't required for Test duty against Pakistan in the UAE.

Dunk, 27, was a star in the Big Bash League last season.

Australian T20 squad: Aaron Finch (capt), Sean Abbott, Doug Bollinger, Cameron Boyce, Patrick Cummins, Ben Cutting, Ben Dunk (wk), James Faulkner* Nic Maddinson, Nathan Reardon, Kane Richardson, Shane Watson, Cameron White

*Faulkner selected subject to requirements on the VB Tour of UAE.
