A funeral has been held for a Northern Territory teacher killed in the Malaysia Airlines MH17 disaster.

Emma Bell was cremated in Amsterdam on Friday morning local time at a service attended by family and friends, her mother Barbara Bell said in a statement on Sunday.

"Our family now has closure," she said.

Ms Bell was a teacher at Maningrida College in Arnhem Land.

Her family thanked the NT government for its support, particularly in helping them travel to Maningrida in August for a memorial and smoking ceremony.

"It has been a bittersweet time for us to know Emma was so well respected in the Northern Territory and remembered fondly by so many people," Ms Bell said.

She also thanked Qantas for transporting extended family from Scotland, as well as Malaysia Airlines and the federal government.

"We are forever grateful to the Australian Federal Police and forensic experts who worked tirelessly in Australia, overseas at the crime scene and in the Netherlands throughout the process of Emma's identification," she said.

Dutch air crash investigators have announced they will release a preliminary report on Tuesday into the downing of MH17 in July, which killed all 298 passengers including 38 Australian citizens and residents.
