Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has slammed the European Union after its parliament joined calls for an end to extrajudicial killings under his anti-drug war.
The European Parliament also directed the EU delegation in the Philippines and the embassies of its 28 member countries in Manila to monitor rights abuses in the country.
"I read the EU condemnation and all I can say to them, f**k you," Duterte said in a speech before local officials. "You are doing it in atonement of your sins."
The 71-year-old president said some members of the EU such as France and Britain were hypocrites for attacking his drug war when some of them were allegedly involved in the killing of Arabs in the past.
Duterte has also in the past lashed out at US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for criticising his harsh anti-drug campaign and expressing concern about human rights abuses.
According to police statistics, 1,466 suspected drug users and dealers have been killed in police operations between July 1 and September 10.
Police also recorded 1,490 deaths during the same period, which are still being investigated.
