Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has promised a thorough judicial review process into the government's changes to citizenship laws.

Former coalition ministers have joined a chorus of criticism about potential breaches of legal rights in the government's plan to strip dual nationals of their Australian citizenship if they are suspected of terrorism.

"They will be able to test the process and the evidence ... there will be a review process through the courts and we will provide more detail of that when the legislation is drafted," Mr Dutton told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday.
