Eagles' AFL showing against Suns 'average'

West Coast coach Adam Simpson says a lack of personnel and the inability to create inside-50's is the reason why they lost against Gold Coast.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson has lamented the Eagles' lack of personnel during Saturday's three-point AFL loss to the Gold Coast.

The Eagles, who are yet to shake off their tag of flat-track bullies, have only won twice away from home this year.

Against the Suns, they lacked penetration without their star forward Josh Kennedy, who injured his calf last week.

Kennedy is leading the Coleman Medal race with 34 goals in 10 games.

West Coast were lacking intensity against Gold Coast and the loss is their third in a row, something that has left Simpson frustrated.

"The trend for us is that we've lost three in a row now, we haven't been able to close it out and we need to find a way," Simpson said.

"We need to look at some of our personal.

"We need (Jack) Darling and (Mark) Lecras to have more impact; they didn't score (against Gold Coast)."

In the two previous weeks, the Eagles lost to Greater Western Sydney and Melbourne and now sit seventh on the ladder, at 6-5, going into their bye week.

West Coast were touted as a potential top-four team but that seems to be slipping away with their inability to win away from Perth.

Despite their poor away record, Simpson was more annoyed by the lack of inside 50s the Eagles registered against the Suns at Metricon Stadium.

"We need to work on getting more supply and getting the ball in there ... we'll keep working on that," Simpson said.

"It's just an average level of performance at the moment."
