Eagles' Kerr keen on AFL recall

West Coast will be aiming to keep their slim finals hopes alive when they take on Essendon at Etihad Stadium next Sunday.

He tallied 35 possessions and three goals in the WAFL, but star West Coast midfielder Daniel Kerr still has to prove he can run without discomfort if he is to earn selection for Sunday's AFL clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

Kerr has been hampered by knee issues all year, with the injury limiting his renowned gut-running ability and leaving the Eagles vulnerable at times.

But the 30-year-old is desperate to return to AFL ranks as soon as possible, and his starring role for East Fremantle on Saturday should be enough to earn him a swift recall - as long as he can train during the week.

Kerr also excelled in the WAFL a fortnight ago, but was forced to miss the following week after his 'good' knee became swollen.

"We want to see how well he's running across the ground," Eagles coach John Worsfold said after Saturday's 17-point win over Gold Coast.

"If he's run the game out really well and he's pulled up really well and he gets the chance to train, then he's on the right track.

"The challenge is he hasn't been able to do that.

"We'll keep our fingers crossed his knee pulls up well from this and we see Daniel out there doing his stuff."

Midfielder Matt Priddis is almost certain to return against the Bombers after a tight quad forced his late withdrawal against the Suns.

Pat McGinnity, Matt Rosa and Adam Selwood are others who will come into the selection mix, while former Magpie Brad Dick could receive a surprise call-up after booting three goals in the WAFL.

West Coast did enough to get over the Suns on Saturday, but they will need to lift their game significantly if they are to match it with the Bombers, who are aiming to secure a top-four berth.

The Eagles possess the firepower up forward to kick a winning score, but they are still missing the likes of Luke Shuey, Chris Masten, Nic Naitanui, Beau Waters, Shannon Hurn and Mark LeCras.

West Coast forward Josh Kennedy is in the box seat to win the Coleman Medal after booting five goals against the Suns, taking his season tally to 59.

The Eagles' 20.10 (130) to 17.11 (113) win over Gold Coast improved their record to 8-10.

But they will need to win their remaining four games and rely on a host of other results to fall their way if they are to reach the finals.
