Eagles overwhelm Redskins in NFL

Philadelphia Eagles have stayed in the hunt for the NFC East title with a 28-13 NFL victory over the depleted Washington Redskins.

Philadelphia Eagles have raced away in the fourth quarter to beat NFC East rivals the Washington Redskins 28-13 in the NFL.

The Eagles drew first blood when Carson Wentz connected with Golden Tate for a score in the first but a 90-yard Adrian Peterson rush put the visitors up 10-7 midway through the second quarter.

Darren Sproles found the end zone on a 14-yard rush but a Dustin Hopkins field goal meant the game was finely poised going in the half 14-13 in favour of the reigning Super Bowl champions.

After a scoreless third quarter, Wentz had his second TD of the night early in the fourth, finding Jordan Matthews, and Jake Elliott sealed the win with field goals from 46 and 44 yards.

The Redskins lost back-up quarterback Colt McCoy to a leg injury in his second game replacing Alex Smith, who broke his right tibia and fibula on November 18.

Mark Sanchez finished the game.

The result means both the Eagles, who have recorded consecutive wins for the first time this season, and the Redskins have 6-6 records while the Dallas Cowboys top the division at 7-5.
