Early start for trans-Tasman netball

Next year's Glasgow Commonwealth Games mean the trans-Tasman netball league will start three weeks earlier.

Next year's trans-Tasman netball league will kick off three weeks early to allow New Zealand and Australia time to prepare for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Canterbury Tactix and Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic open the competition with their round-one clash in Christchurch on March 1, and the grand final is scheduled for June 23.

The Glasgow Commonwealth Games begin on July 23.

The schedule includes an Anzac Day fixture for the first time when the NSW Swifts play Southern Steel in Canberra on April 25.

Adelaide Thunderbirds begin their title defence against Central Pulse in Porirua near Wellington on March 3, then back up a week later on the Gold Coast for a replay of this year's grand final against Queensland Firebirds.
