Felt, chunkier belts and capes will be hot trackside during autumn racing.
Autumn racing carnivals are already in full swing in Melbourne and Sydney, with the Group One Australian Guineas to be run at Flemington on Saturday.
Myer milliner Natalie Bikicki says felts, leather and heavier fabrics replace spring's straw.
"You will have a lot of earthy tones, you will see a lot of the girls in rusts and reds, even though they are juxtaposed with lighter colours," she says.
"You can afford to do greens, mauves and plums - those colours are a little bit heavy in spring but in autumn they just shine."
Bikicki says accessories such as structural belts and gloves are perfect autumn trackside fare.
To keep warm on chillier days, wrap yourself in a cape, jacket or overcoat.
"Pants if you want as well, why not?"
For your face Bikicki recommends make-up that flatters your skin tone, adding it is best to select make-up only one tint darker than that worn in spring.
"Don't just wear dark colours simply because it's autumn, wear what suits you.
In autumn work with slightly more plum than pink, Bikicki said.
"You can afford to do that; just don't go into the scarlets or reds if you don't feel they suit you."
