Matt Ebden insists complacency won't be a factor as he chases a spot in the Wimbledon third round with victory over the second-oldest player in men's major tennis.
The West Australian plays 38-year-old French qualifier Stephane Robert on Thursday after taking out 10th seed David Goffin to give himself a huge opportunity to make the second week of a grand slam for the first time.
Juan Martin del Potro and Canadian prodigy Denis Shapovalov - who are projected to clash in round three - are the only remaining seeds standing between Ebden and the quarter-finals.
The 30-year-old knows opportunity knocks but is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
His coach is helping make sure of that, offering some stern words of advice in the jubilant aftermath to Ebden's straight-sets first-round win over the world No.9.
"He said: 'Well done, but get off your phone and get organised - we've got two weeks'. He's like, 'I expected you to win, I would have been pretty upset if you'd lost that match," Ebden said.
In the form of his life and now assured of a first-time top-50 ranking, Ebden believes he belongs among the elite.
But he knows performing day in, day out is the key.
Hence why he's treating Robert with due respect.
"I know how good he is. He's very talented," Ebden said.
"He doesn't move his feet much but his return's unbelievable and he can hit winners anywhere.
"So it could be tougher (than Goffin). He's not seeded and I'm not playing Roger (Federer) so I know it's not something like that.
"But at the same time if I don't show up and play really well, I'll lose, bar something crazy happening.
"So I've got to prepare just the same as if I was for Goffin or for Roger last week (in Halle). The guy's just as capable as playing at top-10 level as I am."
Victory over the world No.158 would thrust Ebden into an inviting third-round contest against either fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon or Italian Matteo Berrettini.
