An American passenger flying to the Dominican Republic has caused havoc among passengers, airplane crew and authorities after he joked about having the deadly Ebola virus.
The unidentified passenger was travelling from Philadelphia to Punta Cana when he is alleged to have yelled out, “I’ve been to Africa!” and ”I have Ebola" shortly before his flight landed in the Caribbean, Fox News Latino reports.
The passenger, who remains unnamed, is understood to have been coughing during the flight.
A video posted online shows emergency medical staff in blue hazmat suits boarding US Airways flight 845 at Punta Cana International Airport and escorting an African-American man off the aircraft.
In the video, he is heard saying, “I ain’t from Africa.”
“I’ve done this for 36 years, and I think that the man who has said this is an idiot, and I’ll say that straight out,” a flight attendant in the video tells the remaining passengers.
Grupo Punta Cana, which owns Punta Cana International Airport, has released a statement saying that the man did not test positive for Ebola.
