Echidna stolen from Gold Coast sanctuary

Concerns are held for an echidna named Piggie which was stolen from a wildlife sanctuary on the Gold Coast.

Two men have broken into a Gold Coast wildlife sanctuary and stolen an echidna.

After failed attempts to steal three different echidnas, one of the thieves managed to remove one of the prickly animals - named Piggie - from her nesting box at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday night.

"Concerns are held for Piggie's welfare as echidnas require very specialised care and feeding," police said.
