Australian Matthew Ebden has made a winning start to the ATP claycourt tournament in Bogota.

Australian Matt Ebden has beaten Taiwan's Jimmy Wang in the opening round of the Claro Open ATP tournament in Bogota.

Ebden fought back after dropping the second set to oust Wang 6-1 2-6 6-1 in the hardcourt event.

After reaching a career-high world ranking of 61 late last year, Ebden has endured a difficult 2013, with his ranking dropping to 113.

Countryman Lleyton Hewitt beat him in the opening round of last weekend's grasscourt tournament in Rhode Island.

In other opening-round action at the Claro Open on Monday, sixth seed Santiago Giraldo won an all-Colombian match against Carlos Salamanca 6-2 6-4.

No.5 seed Adrian Mannarino from France beat Colombia's Alejandro Gonzalez 6-4 0-6 6-4 and Italy's Matteo Viola downed Illya Marchenko from Ukraine 6-1 2-6 6-1.
