The Gold Coast have signed former South Sydney and Wests Tigers NRL forward Eddie Pettybourne.

The 26-year-old utility has been signed on a one-year deal with the Titans having been granted a release from Wigan on personal grounds.

Pettybourne has been brought in as a replacement for Paul Carter, who was sacked after a drink-driving incident in December.

Titans coach Neil Henry was happy to sign a player of Pettybourne's experience.

"He's a hard-running back or front-rower who's had a lot of experience at the top level and I know Wigan were very happy with his form last season," Henry said.

"He was prominent in their run to the grand final and had proved himself at NRL level.

"He will be a valuable addition and we are very lucky to have a player of his stature to replace Paul."

A South Sydney junior, Pettybourne played 91 NRL games for the Rabbitohs after debuting at 19 in 2007 before spending the 2013 season with Wests Tigers.
