Eels not that far off: Mannah

Parramatta co-captain Tim Mannah says his team is not far away from turning around their four-match NRL losing streak.

Parramatta co-captain Tim Mannah says it won't take much for the side to pull up out of their NRL tailspin.

After being one of the feelgood stories earlier in the year, the Eels' season has fallen away with four straight losses to be 13th on the NRL ladder.

They were in the top eight after round 15 but will be fighting to keep their campaign afloat when they take on the Gold Coast at CBus Super Stadium on Sunday.

Mannah missed the past two games - both heavy losses against the Warriors and Souths.

His sidelining was ill-timed with injuries to key fellow players Nathan Peats (knee), Manu Ma'u (broken hand) and Will Hopoate (shoulder).

Despite having conceded 142 points in their past four outings, Mannah said they were not far away from turning things around.

He said there were positive signs against the Rabbitohs on the weekend and the 32-12 scoreline was not representative of their effort.

He said the young players who had stepped into the fold were just lacking a little confidence and things could swing around suddenly.

"I think sometimes for a young team the challenge of backing up week in and week out can be tough, especially in an environment like the NRL," he said.

"But I think we're starting to get some players back which are plugging some holes there and we've got a few young guys who have a bit of a spring in their step.

"Hopefully we can bring that up to the Gold Coast and get our season back on track."

Mannah said he would consult a specialist on Tuesday and was hopeful of returning against the Titans.

"I hope I can return (on Sunday), but I got my hopes up last week and I got knocked back," he said.

Mannah, Eels teammate Ben Smith and Canterbury five-eighth Josh Reynolds yesterday launched the annual Bandaged Bear Cup.

The game between the two sides will be played at Parramatta Stadium on August 5 and aims to honour the staff and volunteers at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
