Eels paid overseas player account: reports

Parramatta reportedly made payments, additional to those discussed with the NRL, into the English bank account of import Lee Mossop.

English import Lee Mossop reportedly received extra payments from Parramatta into an overseas bank account after his time at the club.

In a further twist to the Eels' salary cap scandal, former chief executive Scott Seward and former team manager Jason Irvine paid $50,000 into Mossop's English bank account, according to Fairfax Media.

Shoulder injuries meant Mossop played just three games for the club after joining in 2014, before his release was secured over the 2015 pre-season.

At that point the NRL was told he was paid a $35,000 release fee, however an email trail between Seward, Irvine and Mossop's manager Wayne Beavis allegedly shows an extra payment was also made.

"A further $50k will be paid direct to Lee's UK bank account I understand to wrap the matter up," Mr Beavis wrote in one email.

There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing from Mossop or his manager, while Seward and Irvine no longer work for the club.

The news comes just one day after the Eels supported Seward giving information to the NRL.

"The Eels support the request of the NRL to interview the previous CEO Mr Scott Seward and any other former employees, officials or relevant parties they deem necessary," the statement said.

Parramatta chairman Steve Sharp also attacked the intense speculation and coverage surrounding the NRL's investigation.

"Public commentary has the effect of undermining confidence in the integrity of the NRL processes which every fan, every single NRL club and the games broadcasters rely upon," Sharp said.
