Parramatta enforcer Tepai Moeroa has shrugged off interest from overseas rugby to re-sign with the Eels for two years.

The 21-year-old on Friday put pen to paper on a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2019 NRL season.

The hard-hitting back-rower had plenty of opportunities in front of him however eschewed them to recommit to the Eels.

He received interest from rugby union and has spoken of his plans to one day pursue a career in athletics.

A talented junior shot-putter, he was forced to abandon his dream of a spot on the Rio Olympic Games team because of a shoulder injury.

He represented the NRL All Stars earlier this year and has set his sights on one day playing for NSW and Australia.

"Tepai is a gifted athlete and a consistent performer who adds a great deal of power to our forward pack," coach Brad Arthur said.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him take his performance to the next level this season."
