Eels sign Souths utility Hunt

Parramatta signed South Sydney outside back Justin Hunt on a three-year NRL deal commencing in 2014.

Likely wooden spooners Parramatta continue to restock their playing roster ahead of the 2014 NRL season after signing South Sydney utility Justin Hunt to a three-year deal.

Hunt, who played under 20s at the Eels in 2008, returns to the club where his father Neil played more than 100 top grade games as a member of the famed Parramatta outfits of the 1980s.

Stuck behind established stars Greg Inglis and Nathan Merritt as well as talented rookie Dylan Walker, fullback/winger Hunt will join a burgeoning list of Eels recruits next season, with Corey Norman, Will Hopoate and Englishman Lee Mossop.

"Justin is an incredibly talented young man and is a great addition to our squad for 2014," Eels coach Ricky Stuart said in a statement.

"He has served a superb apprenticeship behind some great outside backs like Greg Inglis and Nathan Merritt at Souths, but now he is at point in his career where he wants to take his game to a new level.

"Justin's signature keeps our recruitment plans on track, and I hope Eels members and fans can take confidence from that."

Currently last on the NRL ladder, the Eels have won only four games in 2013 and appear headed for a second straight wooden spoon.

It is a feat not achieved by the club since 1961 when they collected the last of six consecutive last-placed finishes.

Hunt was granted a release from the final year of his contract with the Rabbitohs in order to take up the offer from Parramatta.
