The Egyptian army has toppled President Mohamed Morsi after a week of bloodshed as millions took to the streets to demand an end to his turbulent year of rule.
The move came shortly after the 48-hour deadline set by the military for Mr Morsi to sort out the crisis engulfing the country or leave the military to implement its own plan.
The army's so-called roadmap has gained the backing of the head of the country's Coptic Church and the top Sunni cleric, but the Muslim Brotherhood says the move is a coup.
Kerri Worthington recounts the latest events.
