Eight people have been injured after a ferry crashed into the end of a wharf at Circular Quay in Sydney, Harbour City Ferries says.
The company says a vessel which was operating the Paramatta River services hit one of the support structures at Wharf 5.
Among the injured are two adults and a child who were suffering from jaw pain, knee pain and a cut lip, media reported earlier. Harbour City Ferries says seven people were treated at the scene, while another was taken to hospital suffering a sore jaw.
Harbour City Ferries’ spokesman Steffen Faurby said a full investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the incident.
“We have followed all post-incident procedures and the situation at the wharf is now fully under control. The vessel itself sustained some superficial damage to the bow and has been transferred to our maintenance facility for inspection and repair.
“Clearly, the safety of our passengers and crew is the number one priority for Harbour City Ferries. We are working with all relevant authorities to ensure we continue to operate our services as we draw to the close of what has been an exceptionally busy long weekend for ferry services.”
