Eight teens arrested after attempt to rob

Eight teenage girls have been arrested after the attempted armed robbery of a young woman who was waiting for a bus in the NSW Illawarra region.

Eight teenage girls have been arrested after a 19-year-old woman was threatened with a knife at a bus stop in the NSW Illawarra region.

The victim was sitting at a Shellharbour bus stop at 9pm on Saturday when she was approached by a group of eight girls.

Police say one of the girls threatened her with a knife and demanded her phone.

The 19-year-old refused and called police, who charged the teenagers at Lake Illawarra Police Station.

A 14-year-old girl was charged with assault with intent to rob armed with and offensive weapon, breach of bail, trespass and goods in custody.

She was refused bail to appear at a children's court on Sunday.

The other teenagers, aged between 13 and 15 years, were charged with unrelated offences and will appear at a children's court in coming months.
