Bundesliga club Eintracht Braunschweig confirmed on Friday the contract extension until 2017 of coach Torsten Lieberknecht despite the team being rock bottom in the German top flight.

"I am delighted by the confidence shown in me," said the 40-year-old Lieberknecht who has been at the club since 2008 after finishing his playing career at Eintracht.

Club sporting director Marc Arnold paid tribute to "the fabulous work carried out in the past years" which won the club promotion last season.

The team have won just four matches in 22 outings this term as they battle for their Bundesliga status.
