A gunman has been found dead after a suburban street was locked down for about two hours south of Perth.

Police were called to a Dudley Park home in Mandurah about 8.10am on Monday after reports of a man with a firearm.

A woman had fled the house with a gunshot wound and sought assistance from a neighbour before she was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

A man believed to be her 78-year-old husband was later found dead inside the house.

Road closures in the area will remain in place for several hours while forensic officers go over the scene, police said.
