Elderly woman dies days after crash

An 88-year-old woman who was freed from a wrecked vehicle following a crash in southern Queensland has died in hospital.

An elderly Queensland woman has died in hospital four days after she was freed from a crashed car by emergency services.

The 88-year-old was a passenger in a car being driven by her 84-year-old friend that was travelling along the Castlereagh Highway at Dirranbandi on Tuesday when it left the road, hit a drain and rolled onto its roof, police said.

The 84-year-old driver was helped from the wreck by a member of the public but emergency services were needed to free the passenger.

The older woman was taken to the Princess Alexandria Hospital where she died on Saturday.

The 84-year-old "remains in a non life threatening condition," police said.

Investigations into the crash continue.
