Embassy officials have made contact with French authorities to confirm no Australians were affected by the terrorist attack in Paris.
Heavily armed men stormed the headquarters of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in the French capital on Wednesday, killing 12 people in the worst attack in France in decades.
A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman told AAP: "consular officials at the Australian Embassy in Paris are in contact with French authorities to confirm that no Australians were affected by this tragic incident.
"Australians in Paris should remain vigilant and should follow the instructions of French authorities.
"Australians travelling to France are encouraged to monitor the travel advice on the Smartraveller website."
The terror level in Paris has been lifted to the highest possible but DFAT's travel advice remains for those visiting to "exercise normal safety precautions".
