The Liberal National Party is set to announce a big ticket infrastructure item in central Queensland.
Premier Campbell Newman launched the campaign of Agriculture Minister John McVeigh's former media advisor Lachlan Millar in the town of Emerald, in the seat of Gregory, on Wednesday night.
Mr Millar is hoping to take over from long-serving Liberal National Party MP and chief government whip Vaughan Johnson.
Mr Newman paid tribute to the long service of Mr Johnson, who holds the Gregory by a margin of 25.5 per cent, and said he believed Mr Millar would be a worthy successor.
The premier also hinted at announcing another infrastructure project on Thursday.
"I'm not going to steal my own thunder for tomorrow, the deputy premier and I are here for a reason not just to launch this campaign, but to announce some great initiatives that will see the infrastructure of regional Queensland go forward," Mr Newman said.
"Vaughan, you will not be disappointed I can assure you that, something that you have advocated for a long time is going to be announced."
Mr Johnson has been campaigning for the government to upgrade bridges and river crossings in his electorate to accommodate heavier C-train trucks for at least two and a half years.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk will be on the campaign trail in the town of Proserpine on Thursday, which is in the marginal seat of Whitsunday, currently held by the LNP's Jason Costigan by a margin of 10.7 per cent.
Labor lost the seat to the LNP in the 2012 landslide election.
It's not known what Ms Palaszczuk intends to announce there, but she'll be counting on a big swing against the LNP if she has any hope of winning the seat for Labor.
