Former England striker Emile Heskey has agreed to play another A-League season with the Newcastle Jets.

The 35-year-old Heskey has agreed in principle to play the 2013-14 season with the Jets and the club says a formal announcement is expected in the next few days.

One of the competition's marquee players this season alongside Sydney FC's Alessandro Del Piero and Western Sydney Wanderers' Shinji Ono, Heskey has helped to significantly boost the A-League's profile this season.

Heskey joins Del Piero and Ono in committing to play in Australia season.

"Everything is agreed and I will be coming back next season," Heskey told the Jets' website.

Jets owners the Hunter Sports Group welcomed Heskey's re-signing.

"Emile Heskey was not only a huge coup for the Club but for the A-League and we look forward to having him here with us again next season," Hunter Sports Group CEO Troy Palmer said.

"I can confirm he has agreed in principle to be with us next year and we are expecting to formalise that in the next few days.

"To have someone of his standing in the game re-sign with the Jets gives everyone at the club confidence in the direction we are heading."
