England fined again for slow over rate

With captain Alastair Cook suspended for multiple minor over-rate offences in the past year, England have again been fined for their sluggish rates.

England's misery at losing the fourth one-day international to Sri Lanka has been compounded by copping a fine for a slow over-rate for the second successive match.

Match referee David Boon imposed the fine after Eoin Morgan's side was ruled to be one over short of their target on Sunday.

Morgan was fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players received 10 per cent fines.

Ironically, Morgan was standing in for regular captain Alastair Cook who was suspended for Sunday's match after falling foul of the same rules.

Cook was banned and fined 20 per cent of his match fee for his team's slow over-rate in the third one-day international on Wednesday.

That was the second time in the last 12 months that Cook had been found guilty of the "minor over-rate offence," the International Cricket Council (ICC) said.
