Australia have been no match for England in an eight-wicket defeat in their women's T20 tri-Series match in Mumbai.

Despite stand-in skipper Rachael Haynes' blazing 65 from 45 balls, England restricted Australia to 8-149 with Jenny Gunn (3-26) the chief destroyer.

After losing the toss, Haynes' knock included eight fours and a six with opener Alyssa Healy (31 from 23 balls) and Ashleigh Gardner (28 from 16) providing the only support.

Half-centuries from Natalie Sciver and Tammy Beaumont ensured the result was never in doubt for England despite the loss of two early wickets.

Coming to the crease in the fifth over with England at 2-34, Sciver plundered 68 from 43 balls in an unbeaten innings that included 12 boundaries.

Beaumont also finished not out as she registered eight fours in her 58 at Brabourne Stadium.

England cruised to 2-150 to win with three overs to spare.

Allrounder Sciver was player of the match after also picking up two wickets.

England go to the top of tri-series table on a superior run-rate, despite Australia's win on Thursday over India.

Haynes deputised for captain Meg Lanning, who sat out game two as part of ongoing management of her shoulder issues.

"It seemed like when someone got going they'd get out and that happened a couple of times throughout our innings," Haynes said.

"What we don't want to lose though is our intent. We've spoken about the style of play that we want to consistently produce in this format so I hope that just because perhaps it didn't quite come off today we don't curve that and go back into our shell.

"We definitely want to target the powerplay, particularly in these conditions its extremely hard to defend when you've got some players who naturally can clear the infield with ease.

"It is something we are trying to do, trying to exploit those first six overs and see how far we can push it."

Lanning is set to return for Australia's third game in the series on Monday against India, also in Mumbai.

Australia handed allrounder Nicola Carey a T20 debut, adding to the maiden ODI cap she received earlier in the tour.
