England in command in 2nd Sri Lanka Test

England are in command at 8-408 at lunch on day two of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Durham, with Moeen Ali not out 85.

Moeen Ali was 85 not out to give England some late-order momentum as they reached 8-408 at lunch on Saturday's second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Durham.

Resuming on 6-310, England were moving into a commanding position in the game and the three-match series after winning the first Test by an innings.

Ali and Chris Woakes (39) shared a 92-run partnership for the seventh wicket as Sri Lanka missed a couple of chances in the field in contrast to their slick display on the first day. Both Ali (on 36) and Woakes (on 12) were dropped.

Ali hit 10 fours to put himself in sight of a second Test century.

Nuwan Pradeep was Sri Lanka's best bowler with 4-94.
