England-India ODI abandoned

The first one day cricket match in the five-game series between England and India has been called off due to rain.

The first of five one-day internationals between England and India has been abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain at the County Ground.

Rain began to fall before the start of play and the match was abandoned at 1.30pm local time, three hours after the scheduled start.

England, who recently beat India 3-1 in a five-match Test series, planned to give a debut to opening batsman Alex Hales.

The second match will take place in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Rain also saw the third and final women's one-day international between England and India at Lord's washed out without a ball bowled.

The no result meant England's women took the three-match series 2-0 after winning both the two ODIs played in the northern coastal town of Scarborough.
