England women name Ashes squad

England have announced their squad for the defence of the women's Ashes in Australia at the start of 2014.

England have announced their squad for the defence of the women's Ashes in Australia in the New Year.

The series will again be contested across multiple formats using the point system that was in place for this summer's series in England, with the teams squaring off in one Test match, three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals.

England won the home series 12-4.

The Test will be held from January 10-14 at the WACA Ground in Perth, the one-dayers between January 19-26 and the final T20 will be staged in Sydney on February 2.

Katherine Brunt, Heather Knight and Anya Shrubsole return from injury after missing the recent tour of the West Indies while Lancashire bowler Kathryn Cross, who made her debut on that tour, features in the Test and ODI squads.

Kent's Natasha Farrant replaces Cross in the only change for the T20 leg of the series while the likes of Lydia Greenway, Jenny Gunn and Sarah Taylor are likely to be key figures throughout the series.

"There can be no room for complacency on our part and we must continue to perform at a very high level if we are to achieve our twin objectives this winter - retaining the Ashes in Australia and winning the Women's World T20 tournament in Bangladesh," ECB head of England women's cricket Clare Connor said.
