England's marathon stint in the SCG field

England spent 193 overs in the field during Australia's first innings of the fifth Ashes Test.

ENGLAND'S INNINGS OF TOIL AT THE SCG

*England were in the field for the hottest part of what was potentially the hottest day of Ashes Test cricket in Australia. The Bureau of Meteorology doesn't have a station at the SCG but nearby readings suggest it was warmer than 43.1C heatwave that struck an Adelaide Test in 1908.

*A heat stress tracker (which takes in a combination of environmental factors to deliver a 'feels like' temperature) displayed a reading of 57.6C in the middle of the SCG on day four of the Test.

*Australia batted for 193 overs during their first innings of the fifth Test, making it the nation's longest Test innings since 1997.

*It was the longest innings by either side in an Ashes contest since 1993.

*Australia could have potentially bettered their highest Test total in a home Ashes if Steve Smith didn't declare. Instead the record set at the WACA during this series' third Test, 9(dec)-662, still stands.

*It was the first time Australian brothers have both scored tons in the same innings since the Waugh twins dominated at The Oval in 2001.

*Legspinner Mason Crane bowled 48 overs, capturing figures of 1-193. It's the most expensive innings figures by a Test debutant from England.

*Jimmy Anderson has now delivered 223.3 overs in this series. The veteran has played 134 Tests but never had such a high workload in any previous series. It is also the third-highest output by a fast bowler in a series this century.

*Stuart Broad has bowled 195 overs in this series. The veteran has played 114 Tests but never had such a high workload in any previous series.

*England have delivered a total of 1003.2 overs this series.
