Melbourne Super Rugby rookie Tom English is the only back in a surprise choice for the Rebels' leadership group.
English joins lock Hugh Pyle, prop Laurie Weeks and flanker Scott Fuglistaller in the group under skipper Scott Higginbotham named on Thursday.
A former Australian Rugby Sevens representative, English got the nod ahead of former Wallaby halfback Luke Burgess, ex-All Black Tamati Ellison and experienced centre Mitch Inman.
The 22-year-old, who made his debut in round four last season, has impressed new coach Tony McGahan through the pre-season.
"Personally, to be in the leadership group in only my second year is quite a special thing," English said.
"I think the importance of the leadership group shouldn't be underestimated, however the whole team is buying into the ideals brought in by Tony and not just the leadership group."
The Rebels have a bye this weekend and open their Super season against the Cheetahs in Melbourne on Feb 28.
