The Rugby Football League has scrapped the system of bonus points that has been used in England's second-tier Championship for the past seven years.

Clubs were awarded three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a defeat by 12 or fewer points but the RFL has decided to standardise the system across all three rugby league divisions in 2015.

It will be two points for a win and one for a draw in the Super League, Championship and League 1.

The move follows consultation with clubs, coaches and players and a fan survey conducted by Leeds Metropolitan University.

RFL chief executive Nigel Wood said: "With an exciting new league structure being introduced in 2015, it is clear that a standardised points system needs to be in place in all three divisions.

"The research revealed that there is much support for both points systems with each having its own merits.

"The RFL board takes the view that the points system familiar to the most spectators should take precedence for the 2015 season."
