Geelong great Corey Enright is back in their leadership group because he has a strong feeling this will be his last AFL season.

The 33-year-old, who is 12 games away from the 300 milestone, is part of a smaller five-man group led by captain Joel Selwood.

Enright is again one of Geelong's official onfield leaders after a two-year absence.

"Coming probably into my last year, I wanted to really give back to the footy club that's given so much to me," he told SEN.

The three-time premiership player, five-time All Australian and two-time club best and fairest was then asked how seriously he felt about this being his last season.

"I'm going into it thinking that way, unless circumstances (change)," he said.

"I went in with a pretty clear mind that whatever comes across this year, I would try to embrace it and enjoy it.

"It could be the last time you actually do a lot of these things and so for me, it was quite refreshing."

Enright was a key member of the Geelong teams that won the 2007, `09 and `11 flags.

The half-back and midfielder remains confident the Cats can be contenders again, despite going out of last year's finals in straight sets.

"I'd like to think we're in that window," he said.

"If you look at the AFL, you could probably make a case for eight or nine clubs that could challenge for the flag.

"We're obviously down the rung a little bit ... we've had a big summer to try to rectify that."

If Enright reaches 300 matches, he will become only the third Geelong player to reach the milestone.

Enright has remained in Geelong's team for their round-two NAB Challenge match against Adelaide on Thursday night at Simonds Stadium.

The Crows squad features star onballer Patrick Dangerfield, who is set to start his pre-season against the Cats.

There is strong speculation that Dangerfield will end the season by joining Geelong under free agency.

Selwood is another player having his first hitout and the two teams have named strong lineups.

Ex-Melbourne player Sam Blease will make his Cats debut and former Melbourne and Hawthorn defender Kyle Cheney will do the same for Adelaide.
