A Tasmanian woman will attempt to become the nation's first transsexual federal politician after being endorsed by the Greens.

Transgender advocate Martine Delaney will stand for the suburban Hobart seat of Franklin, now held by Labor's only Tasmanian federal Lower House representative, Julie Collins.

Before the 2016 poll, state Greens convenor Austra Maddox said Ms Delaney's candidature was one of two confirmed on Wednesday.

"It has been to the executive (committee) and been endorsed," she told AAP on Monday.

Ms Delaney, who was born male and named Martin has undergone reassignment surgery.

She has spoken publicly about her life and is inspired to enter politics to campaign for a more equal society.

"I'm overwhelmingly disillusioned with what's happening in this country at the moment and felt I needed to do something more than what I've been doing," she told News Corp.

"I can't just sit back and complain."

Along with transgender rights, Ms Delaney is passionate about supporting asylum seekers, Aboriginal people, and the victims of domestic violence.

The Greens also endorsed Carol Beaumont as candidate for the state's northern division of Bass, held by Liberal Andrew Nikolic.

Ms Maddox said the party is finalising the process to replace outgoing federal senator and former Australian Greens leader Christine Milne.

Nine candidates are standing for the position and a ballot of party members is expected to make a decision by the end of July.

Not all candidates have made public their nomination, but former Tasmanian Greens leader Nick McKim has made clear his intention and is a frontrunner for a ticket to Canberra.
