Erebus thinking big in Supercars

David Reynolds became the fifth winner in six Supercars races this season at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.

David Reynolds and team principal Betty Klimenko agree: Erebus Motorsport are in the Supercars championship to win it.

Yes, that's Erebus Motorsport, the plucky team that might have claimed last year's Bathurst success but wasn't supposed to turn that into a consistent title bid.

Well after six races of this year's series, Reynolds is sitting second in the standings and looking just one way - up.

"We're trying to set high goals," he said after winning Sunday's sprint race at the Australian Grand Prix.

"If you aim for 10th you're only ever going to be 10th.

"We're trying to aim to be in the hunt and that's what we're doing."

Klimenko saluted both her driver and pit team after the team's first win of the season.

She's also daring to dream about what could lie over the rainbow for her team after years of struggle.

"Hopefully we've found our yellow brick road and it'll take us all the way to Oz," she said.

"I feel like calling David 'Dorothy'.

"I love these boys ... but it's bloody nerve wracking I can tell you."

In Melbourne, Reynolds held off Nick Percat and Jamie Whincup to claim his first win since the breakthrough Bathurst result last year.

It came after a pair of top-four finishes at the season-opening Adelaide meet, suggesting consistency might be around the corner.

The slow-starting larrikin suggested his career record of finishing strong in the championship race suggested only better things are to come.

"It's been the best start of any year I've ever had," he said.

"To be second in the championship its the furthest I've been by about eight spots

"I wake up about six months into the championship and go good the last six months. I'm still sleeping technically."
