The experts called for greater accountability after US authorities failed to indct police officers for the detahs of two unarmed black men in separate cases that sparked mass protests.

The deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson and Eric Garner in New York have led to the protests of thousands of people angry at police's treatment of African Americans.

"I am concerned by the grand juries' decisions and the apparent conflicting evidence that exists relating to both incidents," said Rita Izsak, the UN special rapporteur on minority issues.

"The decisions leave many with legitimate concerns relating to a pattern of impunity when the victims of excessive use of force come from African-American or other minority communities".

US Attorney General Eric Holder has launched a civil rights review of the Missouri shooting and vowed to conduct an investigation of Eric Garner's death.

UN special rapporteur on racism, Mutuma Ruteere of Kenya said discriminatory practices, such as =racial profiling by police officers, must end.

"Such practices must be eradicated," he said.

The use of lethal force must also be reviewed in line with international alw, said UN special rapporteur on arbitrary executions, Christof Heyns.

"The laws of many of the states in the U.S. are much more permissive, creating an atmosphere where there are not enough constraints on the use of force," he said.

"A comprehensive review of the system is needed -- the enabling laws, the kinds of weapons the police use, the training they receive and the use of technology such as on-body cameras to ensure accountability."
