European sharemarkets have opened slightly lower.

Leading European stock markets have opened on a weak note, with the FTSE-100 index in London easing back 0.11 per cent or 7.58 points to 6,865.97 points in the absence of any big indicators.

In Frankfurt, the DAX index was down slightly by 0.06 per cent on Wednesday to 10,022.99 points, above the 10,000 mark which it had reached at the close on Monday.

In Paris, the CAC 40 index was on the back foot, shedding 0.25 per cent to 4,583.39 points after four days of rises and hit by an 11.0-per cent plunge by shares in pipe-maker Vallourec which issued a profits warning.
