Evergreen Australian spinner Brad Hogg has once again proved age is no barrier, by spinning Kolkata Knight Riders to a seven-wicket IPL win over Chennai Super Kings.

The veteran, who at 44 is the oldest to ever play in an IPL game, was instrumental in restricting Chennai to 9-165, taking a match-best 4-29 before watching on as Robin Uthappa (80 off 58) and man of the match Andre Russell (55 off 32) powered Kolkata to 3-169 on the back of a 112-run partnership.

Hogg made an immediate impact when introduced into the attack, taking the vital scalps of New Zealand power-hitter Brendon McCullum and South African star Faf du Plessis (20 off 11) in his opening over.

McCullum, who hit a blistering 32 off 12 balls, was trapped lbw on Hogg's first delivery, before du Plessis was left stranded after being bamboozled by Hogg's googly and was stumped by Uthappa.

Hogg added the IPL's $2 million man, Ravindra Jadeja, and Pawan Negi to his list of victims as Chennai's bright start was frittered away.

Fellow Australian Pat Cummins gave Kolkata the perfect start when he had Dwayne Smith caught off the first ball of the match - but his night went south quickly, and he returned the expensive figures of 1-54.

Cummins copped special treatment from McCullum, who smashed three sixes and two fours off his bowling as the highly-rated NSW quick went for 35 runs from his opening two overs.
