Former AFL footballer Stephen Milne has been facing rape allegations for a decade and is eager to have his day in court, his lawyers say.
Milne, 33, is charged with raping a woman at a teammate's house after a drunken night out in 2004.
His barrister Ruth Shann told the Victorian County Court the former St Kilda forward wanted his trial to begin in November.
"There's been 10 years delay already your honour and he's very keen for that date to be preserved," she said on Friday.
Ms Shann also says the defence team may argue Milne cannot get a fair hearing and seek a permanent stay on the trial.
Judge Michael Bourke released to the defence documents relating to the former Office of Police Integrity's (OPI) probe into the two police officers who investigated the rape allegations.
Ms Shann said the OPI, since subsumed by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC), investigated claims of missing evidence and one officer having an inappropriate relationship with the alleged victim.
She said the defence would analyse the documents and could make a permanent stay application at a later court date.
Milne will face trial on three counts of rape on November 24.
The matter will return to court for a special mention hearing on September 22.
