Former Brisbane assistant coach Wayne Brittain has hit out at the AFL club's chief executive Greg Swann, saying the boss' head should be on the chopping block.
Brittain, who was the head coach at Carlton in 2001 and 2002 before he became an assistant at the Lions in 2009, criticised the way the club has been run under Swann amid speculation coach Justin Leppitsch could be sacked.
"The whole club is performing poorly," Brittain told SEN Breakfast on Monday.
"It's not just Justin Leppitsch that should be under pressure at the Brisbane Lions, Greg Swann should be under enormous pressure there as well.
"Their club is just running at a massive loss, they've got no corporate support, their facilities are average.
"Their on-field performance of both teams - their NEAFL team as well - is nothing short of just poor."
Brittain was only an assistant at the Lions for one season, and his tenure came to an end well before Swann took over as the club's chief in July 2014.
Brittain also said he couldn't see Leppitsch holding his job for the remainder of the season if the Lions continue their 1-11 form.
Swann has continued to throw his support behind Leppitsch, who played 227 games for the club and has another year left to run on his contract.
However that didn't stop Leppitsch from being forced to answer questions about his future after the club's 83-point flogging at the hands of Fremantle on Saturday night.
"Here we go again. Can we stop these silly questions? I'm getting over it to be honest," Leppitsch said.
"Why would you ask someone if they're going to lose their job? If you said that to someone on the street it's a disgusting thing to say.
"Ask someone who decides it, not me. Stop asking me."
Leppitsch has won 12 of 56 games since taking over as the club's coach at the start of 2014.
