Brisbane have thrown an AFL lifeline to Carlton discard Mitch Robinson, signing the hard-nut midfielder on a two-year deal.

Robinson was shown the door by the Blues after playing 100 games, with a lie over what caused a broken eye socket proving his final misdeed.

He failed to initially disclose to the club that the injury was the result of a Melbourne CBD brawl.

The 25-year-old was also suspended three times in the 2014 season for on-field indiscretions, but the Lions are confident they can harness his aggression.

"Mitch is one of the guys who always attacks the footy 100 per cent," Lions recruiting chief Peter Schwab said of the delisted free agent.

"He's super-competitive and consistently puts his head over the footy.

"Mitch brings a real aggression to our midfield and we are confident that if he can harness that aggression and get a good pre-season under his belt, he can have an impact on our side."

The Lions were one of the most active players in last month's trade period, signing Collingwood gun Dayne Beams and Geelong's Allen Christensen.

Also on Monday, Geelong recruited ex-Melbourne midfielder Sam Blease as a delisted free agent.

"We see Sam as a player who can bring pace as well as a great ability in front of goal," Geelong football manager Neil Balme told the club's website.
