Former detectives Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara will appear in court today charged with the murder of 20-year-old Jamie Gao.

The student's body was found in the ocean near Cronulla, a week after he was reported missing last May.

It's alleged Gao was shot by Rogerson and McNamara at a storage shed over a botched drug deal.

Rogerson was arrested in dramatic scenes at his Sydney home within hours of Gao's body being found. His alleged accomplice, Glen McNamara, was arrested two days later.

The pair were charged with murder and major drug supply offences. Rogerson reportedly won't apply for bail when the case comes before court.

They will face Central Local Court in Sydney today.
