Ex-Liberal senator gets library job

The Turnbull government has appointed former coalition senator Brett Mason to chair the National Library.

Former Queensland Liberal senator Brett Mason has been appointed chair of the Council of the National Library of Australia.

Dr Mason, who starts his three-year role on August 9, is currently Australian ambassador to the Netherlands and diplomatic representative to the International Court of Justice.

The outgoing chair, Ryan Stokes, will become chair of the National Gallery of Australia in July.
